Verluisteraar

2023
A building is a material body that you can not enter into a conversation with, in order to get to know them.

How to develop a close and intimate relation with a building? This was the main question we researched on during the collaboration of KABK and Amare. The spatial installation 'Verluisteraar' invites you to approach a building through listening.

Being „house for the arts, events, education and cultural encounter“, the building of Amare can still feel distanced when only passing through the entry hall on the ground floor. While Amare is full of live and encounter, it can be hard to grasp. Life takes place on the upper floors, where passer-bys do not have access to. 'Verluisteraar' offers a glimpse into areas of the building you would usually not encounter. It invites you to sit down and eaves-drop to the live sounds, daily rhythms and hidden happenings of the building by placing a tiny horn around your ear.

The two-sided installation not only allows for listening, but for exchange as well. Talking through the tiny horn, you become a musician yourself. Verluisteraar questions the role of musician and audience, input and output. Through the installation, building and passer-bys both become musicians and audience of an ongoing concert.
